Wordpress

Why Blog?

  • 40% of companies use blogs for marketing.
  • 55% more website traffic to those who have a blog.
  • 67% more leads for those who blog B2B.
  • 88% more leads for those who blog B2C.
  • 77% lift for those who have >51 blog posts.

Using the right blog platform is key to your success.

While I don’t believe that you can’t succeed using platforms such  as Blogger, Joomla, Drupal, TypePad, or Tumblr my recommendation for blogging is WordPress.

It’s powerful, easy to learn and has plenty of SEO plugins that increase your chances of topping the search engine results.

WORDPRESS

The thing to keep in mind when considering WordPress is that there are actually two versions:

1.WordPress.com

2.WordPress.org.

They are very different from each other, and from Blogger too, and so I’m going to give you a brief overview of each to discuss the differences.

WordPress.com is designed for people who want to create a blog quickly and easily, without having to worry about the hassle of hosting and customization.

WordPress.com

Pros

  • Easier to use than WordPress.org, especially for the beginning blogger.
  • Free web hosting.
  • Choose from 100+ themes.
  • More control over blog authors’ capabilities than Blogger.
  • Choose from a variety of widgets to add to your blog.
  • The WordPress software is automatically updated when a new version is released.

Cons

  • To use a custom domain name, you’ll need to pay yearly for an upgrade, in addition to the cost of the domain name.
  • You can’t upload your own theme.
  • You can’t customize your blog’s PHP source code, but you can purchase an upgrade that enables CSS editing.
  • You can’t install plugins.  §Google text ads may occasionally be displayed on your blog.
  • It’s against the terms of service to monetize your blog.
  • No JavaScript allowed.

WordPress.org

WordPress.org is best for tech-savvy people, who want complete control over their blog, and who are willing to pay for web hosting. It attracts a lot of people who want to create a website or blog for their business, but it also works great for hobbyists.

Pros

  • It’s free, open-source software.
  • You can choose from a wide variety of themes, or upload your own.
  • You have full control over the look of your blog.
  • WordPress.org will never display ads on your blog.
  • You can monetize your blog.
  • Choose from a variety of widgets to add to your blog.
  • More control over blog authors’ capabilities than Blogger.
  • You can install plugins for extra features.
  • You can’t just create blogs, but websites too.

Cons

  • You have to pay monthly for a web host.
  • You have to upgrade your software manually when a new version is released.
  • You’ll need to keep your own backups.

We will be conducting a workshop this month titled. Blogging for Business Made Easy. Stay tuned for details.
